RENEWABLE, CLEAN, SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

The universe is made of energy. In reality there is nothing but energy. Yet at present our primary sources of energy are quite limited. By far the most significant are fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

Fossil fuels are major pollutants that threaten human health. They exist only in finite supplies that are fast being depleted. Access to these fuels has always been a prize often won at great cost through pressure, chicanery, and violence even when these fuels were plentiful. Now that they are dwindling the situation is exacerbated. The quest for fossil fuels has been a principle ingredient in every major conflict of the past hundred years or so. Yet they remain our first source of energy.

Nuclear plants have safety problems, create toxic waste, and matter that can be and is used to make weapons of inconceivable destructive capacity. They threaten our existence if they should become unsafe and their waste cannot be properly eliminated.

The recognition of these issues coupled with the realization that we live in the midst of virtually infinite energy, is a hallmark of this awakening. Environmentalists and energy experts have arrived who have a new vision. They see abundant, safe, economical energy in the air, water, and sky. They are proving the viability of wind and solar energy. They are beginning to discover ways to tap the enormous power of the ocean. The beauty of these sources of energy is that they can be inexpensive especially in the long term, safe, clean, and inexhaustible.

The birth of the idea and possibility of renewable energy coincides with the growth of this awakening. Renewable energy has gained acceptance in the popular mind. This is, as they say, an idea whose time has come. The reason it has come is partly the rising cost and scarcity of fossil fuels, but, more important, the idea's time has come because our collective consciousness is rising. We are becoming able to change. We are becoming able to create a new future even against a phalanx of entrenched and powerful institutions that cannot or do not wish to change. Renewable energy is one of the great fronts upon which evolution is manifesting due to the co-creative consciousness that is awakening.
